Let's Crown the Greatest Game of the Gaming Era: Final Four
The past two days have been incredibly eventful. On Monday, we marked the five-year anniversary of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a tournament to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PS5 games and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to compete against each other, all heading towards a final showdown where the leading contender from each platform would go head-to-head. There have been some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's moment to decide the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games ahead of Thursday’s final battle.
The PS5 Side
For PlayStation 5, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it won top honors at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its win against God of War Ragnarök seems like a major shock. However, to reach the championship, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the semi-finals, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Will Spider-Man defeat a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he fated to become a chibi cameo in the upcoming Astro Bot title?
Xbox Series X Contenders
For Xbox Series X has been even juicier. Emerging victorious from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the open-world driving game already, proving that a more specialized genre game deserves to be on the equal footing as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its last roadblock on the way to the championship is a big one, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, beating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a larger-scale title from an well-known franchise that's closely tied to Xbox itself? Should anyone manage this feat, it's probably Indy.
Place your ballots to decide the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games of this generation, and come back tomorrow to see who will be competing for the grand prize in the finals!
